Fort-Dauphin, or Tolagnaro, is a city on a small peninsula on the extreme southeast coast of Madagascar. It is the capital of the Amosy Region of the Tolanaro District. It is a major seaport and the site of the first French settlement in Madagascar. Fort-Dauphin is known as the lobster capital of Madagascar. It has a tropical rainforest climate. Most of the population are Antanosy. Ilmenite ("black sand") mining (at QMM's Rio Tinto mine) produces titanium dioxide, which forms a bright white base pigment used in paints, paper, and plastics. Ft. Dauphin is a three-hour flight south of Tana.

Lemur preserve
The former botantical garden Reserve de Nahampoana, 7 km east of Ft. Dauphin, has hiking trails through vegetation typical of southeastern Madagascar. Native animals include ring-tailed lemurs, Verreaux's sifakas, brown lemurs, chameleons, crocodiles, amd many birds.
